IITRAA Dehradun Chapter celebrates 175th year of IIT Roorkee

IIT Roorkee is the pride of the state and the country: Governor

Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (Retd) said at the 175-year anniversary celebration by IITRAA Dehradun chapter, that IIT Roorkee is the pride of Uttarakhand and the country. IIT Roorkee has made an important contribution to the progress of the country. This institute has given more than 43,500 intellectual talents to the country, who significantly contribute to the development. On Sunday, the 175th anniversary of IIT Roorkee was organized by the Dehradun Chapter of the IIT Roorkee Alumni Association (IITRAA), and Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (Retd) participated as the Chief Guest.

The Governor inaugurated the International Seminar on Emerging Powers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to promote research, research, and innovation at the annual function held in the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers near ISBT.

The Governor said that Artificial Intelligence, Drone Technology, and Innovation enhance the nation’s power. We can bring a significant change in the country with the expertise in subjects like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These have to be used to prevent migration to Uttarakhand, make proper use of natural resources, and enhance the livelihood of the villagers living in the mountains.

He said that engineering and technology would have to be used in the protection and development of the divine and cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. Technology will also have to be used more and more in communication, manufacturing, environmental protection, and the development of material resources so that changes can be brought into the lives of the people here.

Governor said that along with the Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand, easy connectivity would have to be made to many holy divine shrines and tourist places. He also stressed that work would have to be done to strengthen the economic condition of Uttarakhand by using technology in the development of spiritual tourism along with the divine and spiritual customs of the state.

He also advocated for using technology for the utilization of natural resources, development of organic agriculture, women empowerment, and protection of girl child. 

The Governor said that just as the engineers of IIT Roorkee made the plains green and prosperous by constructing the Upper Ganga Canal, in the same way, the mountains, too, make the inaccessible places accessible with the use of new technology. He said that with a splendid history, a glorious past, and a bright future, IIT Roorkee has worked to encourage the spirit of research and skill development among its faculty and students.

On this occasion, National President of IITR Alumni Association, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Vishwambhar Singh , Dehradun chapter President Prof. M.P.Jain, Senior retired Professor Harsh Sinvhal of IIT Roorkee, Director, ONGC Alok Kumar Gupta, DS Panwar, and others have worked in various fields of IIT Roorkee. Many senior alumni were also present at the occasion.

IITRAA Website Inauguration and Release of Souvenir

The Governor also inaugurated the website of IIT Roorkee Alumni Association www.iitraa.in. Along with it, the Souvenir of the association was also released. The Governor also inaugurated The Institution of Engineers (India) Uttarakhand State Centre, Dehradun Road Construction Quality Laboratory.

The Governor appreciated the work done by IIT Roorkee to promote women’s education and women’s empowerment and said that women are indeed the future leaders of the country, and the initiative of IIT Roorkee to empower women is commendable. Many women alumni of IIT Roorkee have brought laurels to the nation. They have held many top-level positions in various departments of the Central and State Governments, including Public Sector Undertakings. He also appreciated the work done by the IITRAA Dehradun Chapter for helping the poor and needy, organizing cultural activities and environmental protection through various social activities, and serving the people during the corona epidemic.
